Luke 19:41-44

Obviously, a whole lot of eyes are focusing on the Middle East right now. Reading this morning in Luke, I came across this passage I had forgotten:

41 "As he approached Jerusalem and saw the city, he wept over it 42 and said, "If you, even you, had only known on this day what would bring you peace-but now it is hidden from your eyes. 43 The days will come upon you when your enemies will build an embankment against you and encircle you and hem you in on every side. 44 They will dash you to the ground, you and the children within your walls. They will not leave one stone on another, because you did not recognize the time of God's coming to you.""

From Isaiah 22:4, "Therefore I said, "Turn away from me; let me weep bitterly. Do not try to console me over the destruction of my people.""

It is amazing to realize how old these conflicts are & even more amazing to read what was written about them so long ago. It is also interesting to note how much Jesus cared for his people even though they had turned away & did not recognize him as God when he approached Jerusalem. He wept over their denial, he spoke directly to them with scripture that they would know & recognize, and in private moments, he even wept over them.

With everything going on in Israel & Lebanon right now, I think world leaders & anyone hoping to accomplish peace in the region might look at verse 42. There doesn't appear to be much hope in cease fire orders written by men.
